Community Safety Tips from District E-13 Community Service Office

To All Residents in District E-13

We have seen an increase in car break-ins in your area recently. Some of these incidents are still under investigation. Most of these incidents have occurred when personal property has been left inside the motor vehicle in plain view, while the automobile was left parked unattended. District E-13 personnel are working together in an attempt to prevent crime in your neighborhood.

Here are some tips and ideas on how to protect your car from being broken into:

If you have a GPS system, an audio system, a cellular phone, or a radar detector in your car, you have goods that thieves consider desirable; therefore, you must not leave them in plain view. Other desirable accessories by thieves are computers and other electronic equipment. “DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE IN PLAIN VIEW”

Do not leave any indicators that a GPS unit is in your car, including mounts, power cords, and suction cups.

  • Do not leave keys displayed anywhere inside your vehicle.

  • Always double-check the doors and windows in your vehicle to make sure they are closed and locked.

  • Do not leave packages or briefcases in plain sight.

  • Spare change or dollar bills should not be left in open view.

  • Do not leave CD’s where they can be seen from outside the car.

  • If you have access to a garage, put your vehicle in it, and lock its doors and the garage door if possible.

We are requesting your partnership to fight against crime. Please follow the recommendations above to reduce crime of opportunity. If you have any question, please feel free to contact us at the BPD District E-13 Community Service Office.
