3-Week Look-Ahead: May 28th to June 15th

Since the look ahead covering the period of May 4th to May 25th, the project has:

  • Achieved final lane configurations at the following locations:

  • Washington Street southbound (towards Roslindale Square) adjacent to the Arborway Yard.

  • Washington Street northbound (towards Green Street) adjacent to the former LAZ park-and-ride lot

  • South Street northbound at the Arborway (at the red house corner).

  • Advanced work in both the northern (towards Green Street) and southern (towards Roslindale Square) Forest Hills Station plaza;

  • Continued construction of bicycle and pedestrian facilities project wide;

  • Continue finalization of signal operations project wide; and

  • Continued installation of structural components for the new upper busway canopy.

Motorists are reminded that eastbound (towards Franklin) and westbound (towards the Arboretum) left turns off the Arborway at the intersections of South Street/Arborway and Washington Street/Arborway are now permanently prohibited. These movements will now be permanently handled by the eastern and western median U-turns. The only exception to this is the westbound left turn at Arborway/Washington Street which is available to general purpose traffic as directed by the electric sign mounted on the signal controlling the Arborway westbound approach. Drivers of private cars using this left turn when the approach is signed for buses only may be subject to fines and assigned moving violations.

Work will not take place on Monday, May 28th in recognition of Memorial Day.

As was noted in emails sent to project stakeholders on Monday May 21st and Monday May 14th, and the prior three week look ahead, nighttime paving operations will begin during the week of May 28th. These operations will result in final paving and pavement markings project wide. Initial steps prior to paving will include milling of the existing binder course of pavement west (towards the Arboretum) of the eastern (towards Franklin Park) median U-turn, followed by adjustment of utility frames and covers to match the grade of final paving. Night work will begin at 8PM with all lanes returned to normal use by 6AM the following morning. Night work will go on for approximately four weeks running from Sunday to Saturday each week

During the week of May 28th, work will address the following:

  • Around the intersection of Arborway/Washington Street:

  • Installation of landscaping.

  • Installation of sidewalks and specialized mixing zone pavers.

  • Between the intersection of Arborway/South Street and Arborway/Washington Street:

  • Installation of sidewalks and specialized mixing zone pavers.

  • Construction of the northern (towards Green Street station) plaza and terminal for the Southwest Corridor Park and bicycle path.

  • Installation of foundations and structural steel for the new, northern headhouse.

  • Construction of the southern plaza between Forest Hills Station and the Arborway including landscaping and drainage.

  • Along the Arborway west (towards the Arboretum) of South Street:
